Chilson Hills Green Expo to provide local green resources
How do you take advantage of those green tax incentives you keep hearing about?
What about those growing green careers in America? Where can I can drop off my recycling
in Livingston County? How can I clean my house without using toxic chemicals?
You can find answers to all of these questions and more at the Chilson Hills Green
Expo on Friday and Saturday, November 13 & 14. The first 50 attendees will get
a head start on saving a few bucks when they receive a free compact florescent light
bulb.
The Expo is a free event bringing together vendors and presenters who offer green
products, services and resources. It is open to the public on Friday (5-8 p.m.)
and Saturday (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). The event is hosted and sponsored by Chilson Hills
Church in Livingston County on the SW corner of Chilson and Brighton Roads. Food
will be available at the event.
Free presentations by field experts are scheduled throughout the event, including:
• Weatherization - Monica Cory, Livingston Oakland

County

“Our intention with this event is to bring together local resources for our communities
to better care for this incredible place that God has gifted us with and save money
in the process,” said Scott Runyon, the Event Coordinator. “It has nothing to do
with politics, but simply caring for our world.”
Beyond the actual event, the organizers have created a website (www.ChilsonHillsGreenExpo.com) as a community resource bank
for local products and services that are “green”. The site lists basic information
on all of the vendors from the Expo with links to their websites so that the public
can have ready access to these services anytime and anywhere, throughout the year.
David Shirk, a long-time member of Chilson Hills Church and part of the event team,
said that the Expo fits well with the community outreach focus the church has demonstrated
for more than three decades.
“People already know we are a place to recycle their papers, a local voting precinct, a
location for community food co-op, a blood drive location, a head-start location, location
for a great Vacation Bible School program,” Shirk said. “Bringing this Green
Expo to fruition will reach further outside our immediate area, bringing people
to a site where they can get information on improving their lives and homes free
of charge.”
At this time, there are still a few booths available for vendors. The Expo is open
to vendors who are involved with green products, technology, energy, automotive,
training and agriculture, as well as those who highlight green processes within
their businesses. Contact the event coordinator or visit the website for details.
The Expo is located at Chilson Hills Church, 4440 Brighton Rd, Howell, MI 48843.
Chilson Hills is an ongoing drop off site for a variety of recyclables including
mixed paper, old cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, digital still and video cameras,
laptop computers, ink jet cartridges, and toner cartridges. The electronics can
be recycled either working or not. No cords or plugs please.
